As we near the end of summer 2025, many of our staff are returning from some well-earned vacation time. A few of our articling students are returning from study leave. Our 2025 income tax season was as busy as ever. In addition to our normal workload, we are continuing to experience significant CRA audit and compliance reviews. In many cases, you will not even know your return has been selected for follow up review until we send you a notification that we have dealt with the request. You may recall from our Spring 2025 newsletter, the CRA continues to move towards online communications as the default, with corporate accounts transitioned in Spring 2025. On 3 July 2025, CRA transitioned the delivery method for most individuals from paper to online. This change affected approximately 500,000 recipients. On 4 September 2025, CRA added approximately 900,000 recipients to this list where this latest change includes more than individuals who receive benefits. What does this mean to you? If you have yet to register for CRA’s my account (personal tax) or my business account (corporate tax), now is the time to do so. We will be circulating a separate communication specifically on this matter due to this transition. In many cases, you will be able to default back to paper communication, if desired, however certain actions are required by you to do so. If you are already set up with CRA online access, we want to remind you that the CRA will never communicate directly via email. The current standard is that you will receive an email notification from the CRA that a new document related to your tax situation has been published to your account. You do not click any links within these notifications. Instead, you will be required to sign into your CRA account to access the communications.
Since our last newsletter, we’ve welcomed Sherry Haberkorn as our new receptionist and Nancy Backer as an administrative assistant.
