Welcome to our Fall 2021 newsletter. It seems as though summer ended suddenly in early October with an immediate change to the weather followed by the recent ‘weather bomb’.
Almost all of the newsletters that we see these days start with a Covid update so we may as well cover that off. Our building is open for business however our 15th floor office is currently closed off. To access our floor, please make arrangements with the individual you are meeting or simply call our receptionist when you enter the building and she will come down to bring you up to the 15th floor. We do require anyone coming to our office to sign in. In addition, masks are worn in the office and in meetings in our boardrooms. We currently have about one-third of our partners and staff working in the office each day and continue with cleaning and mask protocols. We are continuously revisiting this with the hope that in the short to mid-term we will be able to open up the office again. As always we are available to meet with you virtually or by telephone if you are not able to, or not comfortable, attending our offices in person.
Since our last newsletter, we are pleased to announce a new senior manager in Gina Taylor who joins us with significant experience in public practice handling clients very similar to ours. We have also had some movement in our receptionist with our previous full-time receptionist Lily Liu moving to an administrative support role and a new receptionist in Marilyn Ahumada starting with us.
We welcome back the 9 final exam writers who completed their 3-days of exams in September and are awaiting the results on 3 December 2021. We wish them all well.
Included in this newsletter, you will read about the new Land Owner Transparency Act and we would encourage you to pursue this with your legal advisors to ensure you are compliant. The cost of not being compliant is significant and it is important to review your situation and potentially reach out to a lawyer to have this attended to by the deadline of 30 November 2021.
As we get closer to the end of the year, this is the time to ensure your tax planning is up-to-date. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or guidance before the typical slow down for the holiday season. We wish you a pleasant lead-up to the Christmas season and again, thank you for your continued support of Rolfe Benson as we closed off our 63rd year in business.
